Body Image & Embodied Interventions for the Therapy Room

Body image work is a challenging part of the recovery process from eating disorders. The therapy room, while associated mostly with cognitive work, can also be a valuable space to include embodied interventions to help clients heal body image distress.

Join Angela Prior, a licensed clinical social worker-supervisor and yoga teacher, as she shares her professional expertise on how to integrate embodiement inteventions in therapy sessions with clients who struggle with body image challenges. She will explain why leaving the body out of body image work is like trying to build a house without a foundation or framework. Through experiential somatic exercises, you will explore the role of the body in the therapeutic process and learn how to use these interventions in your sessions with clients to help build a foundation and framework for cognitive work.

This virtual workshop is for mental healthcare providers and other professionals who wish to learn about the role of embodiment interventions in helping clients with body image challenges and how to weave movement into a traditional talk therapy session and other 1x1 settings. All engaged in related work or who have an interest in this topic are welcome.

This workshop includes:

  • Education on the neuroscience of body image

  • Education on the role of Polyvagal Theory and body image
