The Brahmaviharas & Eating Disorder Healing: A Workshop for Yoga Professionals

Meet instructor Keren Eshed and learn more about this continuing education workshop.

The Brahmaviharas, also referred to as the qualities of the heart, are friendliness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. These four qualities mentioned in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra are meant to promote clarity of mind. Each quality can be addressed as a state of mind or a way of seeing the world that can be cultivated through practice. Philosophical inquiry provides a framework to better understand our experiences and challenges. Yoga philosophy supports self-agency, fosters benevolent coping skills, and can empower a life of connection.

In this workshop, we will learn how to awaken these qualities in daily life and in our work with the eating disorders community. We will explore the Brahmaviharas as tools for transformation and for deepening connections to ourselves and others. This workshop will hold space for discussion, practice, and reflection to explore how these concepts apply to the healing process so that we can better serve the eating disorder community.

Who Should Participate

This workshop is for yoga teachers, yoga therapists, and anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of yoga philosophy and practices as they apply to eating disorders healing. The workshop will enrich your skills as a teacher. You do not need any prior knowledge or study of yoga philosophy and you also do not need to be currently teaching specifically in eating disorder recovery. The tools gained in this workshop will enrich your skills as a teacher and can be applied to offerings specific to eating disorders as well as public yoga classes.
